History of Greenwich

Settled around 1763 by Dutch families, later followed by English, Scottish and Irish families, Greenwich quickly became a busy and flurishing community. With the introduction of stagecoaches, canalways and railroads these technologies opened up access to the many natural advantages that Greenwich had to offer, especially to industry, businesses, farms and families.

Water and farming played a large part in the success of Greenwich and other surrounding communities. Mills of all types opened around the waterways including gristmills, paper, plaster, wool, cotton and flax.
